ZUNE!

Microsoft’s media player Zune has a website called Zune arts. Here’s a quote from Wired:

“Microsoft isn’t known for hip marketing, but a surprisingly creative ad campaign that uses animation and indie tunes to promote the Zune is generating a buzz online …

“‘They’re creating pieces of art, content with viral potential, instead of just a 30-second commercial,’ said advertising and design critic Warren Berger. ‘It’s very smart, and a good way to go.’

“Reaction to the video campaign has been overwhelmingly positive, both from casual viewers and from artists tapped to create the clips.”

Portland’s own Cory Godbey has contributed to the creative stew that is Zune arts. He pulled some late nights (actually late weeks) and came up with a dynamite short film that we’re all proud of.

72andsunny is the agency overseeing microsoft’s ad campaign. Glen Cole, the Co-Founder had this to say about the ad: “This is a departure from past films on a couple of levels: Visually it has a timeless, organic and decidedly un-CG quality. And the story is more complex and dark. Perhaps the only Zune Arts film that shows the ill effects of not sharing. Really excited about what Godbey has brought to the table.”

We’re really excited too. I especially like the Gym teacher approach of calling Cory by his last name. Atta boy Godbey! Check out Cory’s blog, light night rains for a detailed description of his process on this project.

Cory, it’s brilliant. I really enjoyed it.
Brannon told me about your process; sounds intense!
Thanks

Man, that’s awesome to see as a final product. :) The orange and golden scenes mixed with the timing of the music makes the heart kinda swell a lil’ bit. Well done, sir.

I’m actually impressed by this. Both you guys and Microsoft. I think this is the first somewhat original thing Microsoft has done. And the video is very nice. Good choice for music too. I love Maps. I only watched a few of the videos on there. But this is the best. Good job.
