- Revenant Culture

Just wanted to let everyone know about a new link we just added to our blog. It’s called The Revenant Culture, a great new website, blog, podcast, and FREE print publication. If you’re from the Upstate of South Carolina, you may recognize a few of the local authors and artists that they feature, but they’re not necessarily tied to the local scene. Here’s a section from their website that describes it well:
“We accept absolutely anything as a submission, from absolutely anyone. Visual art must render well in black and white for the print edition. Our editorial policy is purposefully nebulous (i.e. nebulous on purpose, and nebulous with purpose), emerging as a sort of aggregate vision from all the folks at The Revenant Culture. Each of us has a robust idea of what art is and should be, but we are hoping that if we wiggle our fingers at each other enough, The Revenant Culture will organically develop an editorial personality of its own based on all of us. We all like people like Umberto Eco, Flannery O’Connor, Mark Tansey, and T. S. Eliot. Also, we believe that art may and even should be offensive, but art that is made strictly to shock is stupid. So don’t bother sending in that coprophilic prose poem you wrote that one night in Des Moines. Yes, we know about that.”
Here’s the cover image of their second printed issue, which features an illustration by Portland Alum., Chris Koelle:
One of the founders of Revenant Culture, Joffre Swait, also owns a bookstore. He has been a good friend to us here at Portland, and they even carry some of our books at the Silver Chair Bookstore in Greer, SC.
