- Justin’s strange name change
- Posted by Zach in News

For some reason, Justin recently decided to start signing his paintings, “G-Diggity.” He says it will help him find comissions, because in his words “G. Diggity is the bomb!”

I recently sat down with G. Diggity and interviewed him about this strange turn of events.
Me: So Justin–
Justin: G. or G. Diggity.
Me: Right. Sorry. So, why the–
Justin: Say it.
Me: Pardon?
Justin: I want to hear you say it.
Me: G. Diggity?
Justin: [pumps his hands in the air in the "raise the roof" gesture] Yeeah.
Me: G. Diggity, you have effectively gone by Justin Gerard for the past 15 years of your life. Why the sudden change?
Justin: G. Diggity is the Bomb!
Me: Yes, but what does that–
Justin: Boom!
Me: But what does–
Justin: BOOM!
Me: Right. So, G. to narrow the focus–
Justin: I want a name that’ll explode all over a clients brain. I want them to run their finger down a list of names and stop at mine and say, “this cat can draw.”
Me: If that’s true G., of what importance is a portfolio?
Justin: [makes an "o" with his fingers] Zero.
Me: No importance?
Justin: A portfolio only says, “I can arrange things in an aesthetically pleasing way.” Let’s face it. That’s irrelevant to the client. They want to know, does this guy have any personal style? Would I want to play basketball with him? Those are the questions that run through his mind.
Me: That seems to fly in the face of conventional wisdom.
Justin: Well, that’s G. Diggity. I’m not conventional and I’m totally in your face.
[at this point G. Diggity takes his shirt off and begins to dance to the ringer on his cel phone]The rest of the interview sort of dissolved. So, there you have it. If you see Justin on the street be sure to call him G. Diggity. He insists.

WOW. How random is that?
I know, right? It certainly surprised me, and I know him.
Can we see the signature?
What? You doubt my word. You think I just made this UP? I’m aghast.
