Early June Update

So, what’s new at Portland Studios? A lot, actually. We’re in full swing on several books that we’ll be publishing in early Fall of 2007: Jack & Inar, a novel by Cory Godbey, and A Child’s Beowulf, finely illustrated by Justin Gerard.

For Beowulf, we’re partnering with a local writer, who has written a wonderful adaptation of the story for younger readers. More on that to come soon. Justin has completed about 5 pieces or so for Beowulf, with about 7 remaining to be done. Justin has chosen to employ a highly detailed art style for the book, much like the piece posted here of The Three Billy Goats Gruff. Just this morning, he’s heading out on a long deserved two week trip to Italy, where I’m sure he’ll be gather ideas for some other future project.

Cory and Matt Mantooth just finished most of the work on the cover for Jack & Inar, and the announcement splash page should be going up in a matter of a few weeks. We’re beginning the process of recording an audiobook for the project, which should provide yet another avenue for fans to hear the story. The voice actor is absolutely amazing in my opinion. I hope you’ll agree.

Just today, writer Zach Franzen has begun his work here, developing ideas and stories, as well as promoting our current and upcoming projects. His writing is going to become a regular part of this blog. I’ve asked him to post his thoughts on writing, film, and culture, along with more consistent updates on what we’ve been doing around here. Zach is a brilliant addition to our team. I’m waiting with a lot of expectation for what he’ll cook up.

Keep your eyes out for more info on the upcoming books. We’ll have a few ads out, as well as a listing in an upcoming edition of Publisher’s Weekly. Its great to see us quickly moving towards fulfilling our vision of being The Story Company that we’ve planned on becoming all along.
