Comic-Con Recap

Thanks to all of you that stopped by our booth, and for those of you that bought something, many thanks! We had a great time at Comic-Con last week. For Cory and I it was our first experience with all of the craziness.

Before leaving we emailed some of the other exhibitors in the small press area. We got a ton of great advice, and it was nice to meet several of them. Most of their emails started with, “Comic-Con is CRAZY!” and they were right. From the hoards of people and star troopers to the hundreds of batmen and Darth Vaders, “Crazy” is definitely the first word that comes to mind.

Overall, I think it was a fantastic trip for us. It was nice to meet many other talented artists and publishers that are pursuing some of the same goals as we have. Two of my personal favorite booths were Flight Comics and Imaginism Studios

Flight Comics recently released Flight Volume 5, edited by Kazu Kibuishi. It is a gorgeous collection of short stories and comics. Kazu Kibuishi is the extremely talented illustrator and writer of Amulet, a beatiful graphic novel that will soon be turned into a live-action film starring Jaden and Will Smith. Congratulations Kazu!

Imaginism Studios is another scary-talented group composed of Bobby Chiu and Kei Acedera. It was great meeting them, and I was lucky enough to pick up a print before they sold out. Here’s what I bought:

Personally, I had dollar signs in my eyes the entire time. Probably goes with the territory when you’re the marketing guy, but I have to say, I really believe that our guys measure up to their peers very well. We met a lot of great people, and I think this trip marked the beginning of several long-term relationships with some great studios and publishers.

I know Cory, Justin, and Ben had the opportunity to visit a few sessions, and I’m sure that you will be able to find out more from them. We’re already making plans to exhibit again next year, so if you can make it out there I promise that it will live up to all the hype!
