- Blog Update and Portland YouTube Channel
- Written by Matt in News
Just wanted to let everyone know about a few changes to our blog. Thanks to Ben Kammer, our in-house WordPress Ace, you can now see the body of the post when you search through previous articles.
We also added feeds from Cory Godbey’s and Justin Gerard’s personal blogs. They often post about technique and personal projects, so it’s definitely worth checking out.
You may notice the addition of Links as well. One in particular is to our YouTube Channel. Most of the animation we’ve done can be seen there, as well as several brush demonstrations by Justin Gerard. You may already …

- Bad Christmas Card Ideas
- Written by Matt in News
Most of us haven’t even picked out our halloween costumes yet (except for Justin Gerard), but before you know it we’ll be pulling out the Christmas decorations. We have a few Christmas Card designs available for purchase from our store, or if you’re really in the Christmas spirit, you can have one of our guys illustrate a custom card for you. Rather than browsing through generic, lame cards to send out, you could come up with your own card idea. Here are a few ideas I wouldn’t recommend:

- War!!!
- Written by Matt in News
For the last few weeks war has ravaged Portland Studios. These were tumultuous times. Alliances were formed only to be broken shortly thereafter. Feelings were hurt, sometimes there was shouting, inappropriate language, and even a few tears.
At first it seemed that the Luxury Wing comprised of Cory Godbey and Justin Gerard would form a strong alliance with Danny McNight and the Johnson Brothers:
Meanwhile, the Johnson Brothers conspired against the Luxury Wing, and wiped them off the map.

- Revenant Culture
- Written by Matt in News
Just wanted to let everyone know about a new link we just added to our blog. It’s called The Revenant Culture, a great new website, blog, podcast, and FREE print publication. If you’re from the Upstate of South Carolina, you may recognize a few of the local authors and artists that they feature, but they’re not necessarily tied to the local scene. Here’s a section from their website that describes it well:
“We accept absolutely anything as a submission, from absolutely anyone. Visual art must render well in black and white for the print edition. Our editorial policy is purposefully …

- DogEared Design
- Written by Matt in Art
We recently heard from Kirk DouPonce of DogEared Design, a long-time friend of Portland Studios. He shared a few recent projects that he has worked on, and said that Justin’s Photoshop tools have been “invaluable.” It’s always nice to hear that people are using our tools, especially from someone as talented as Kirk. Here is a sample of some of his recent work:
Just a reminder that Justin will be starting a series of posts on his recent project with ACM sometime later today.
