When I was a kid, I used to sneak into the dining room with a spoon. I would glance over my shoulders, and if no one was looking, I would eat several spoonfuls of sugar … because it’s good! Sugar tastes great! Strangely though, when I lift my voice in praise of sugar, I’m shouted down by anti-sugarites. “It’s not good for you,” they say. Aaron Greene mentioned that I write posts that are frequently too formal and often too long. Well, I don’t think this one is too formal. Though, it is far, far, far, too long, but only if you read it.

I recently revisited a play I like, Tom Stopard’s Travesties. Here’s an excerpt. The conversation is between Henry Carr, a fella from the British Consulate, and Tristan Tzara the infamous Dada-ist. It speaks a little of the abandonment of the art object and it’s replacement by the art idea.
